This study aims to explore how incorporating traditional cultural materials into formal teaching practices can improve students’ enthusiasm and help them understand the dimension of independence as part of the Pancasila student profile, which has six dimensions. However, it has been noticed that there are no guidelines or teaching materials available for Pancasila student profiles based on Minangkabau Kaba, which is a significant gap in current practices. To address this gap, the researchers used a unique and innovative approach called the sociology of literature approach. They searched for values in Kaba Si Buyuang Karuik that intersect with the independence dimension of the Pancasila student profile. The study identified 14 sentences containing values presented beautifully and poetically, which can be included in teaching materials to achieve the objectives of the independence dimension’s elements and sub-elements. Overall, this research proposes an innovative solution to integrate traditional cultural materials into formal teaching practices, which can help students’ enthusiasm and instill critical values in the Indonesian nation’s philosophy of life, Pancasila.
