The Free Trade Agreement between Chile and the United States (hereinafter the FTA or the Agreement), signed in 2003 and in force since January 1, 2004, marks an important stage in the new generation of bilateral trade agreements. The incorporation of a chapter on intellectual property, following the format of previous agreements signed by the United States, has served as a model for subsequent negotiations particularly with Latin American countries (DR-CAFTA, Colombia, Panama, and Peru). © 2010 Springer-Verlag New York.
