Abstract

This chapter gives an overview of the structure, organisation and governance of the Lithuanian sport system. The tasks and responsibilities of the main sport stakeholders at both the horizontal level (national, regional and local) and the vertical level (governmental, intermediate and non-governmental organisations) are described. A special focus on national sport federations is given with regard to their place and role in the overall Lithuanian sport system. The legal and general policy frameworks supporting the development of sport federations are provided. The agreements between sport policy makers (governmental level, municipal level) and sport service providers (federations, clubs) to create partnership networks with concrete division of roles, functions and responsibilities are discussed in the chapter.
