Abstract

I report on the development of a research group that evolved out of a curriculum initiative, which had the aim to increase the applied components in science and engineering courses. The curriculum development itself did not continue due to a change in economic circumstances in Uruguay; however, a successful research group emerged from the students who had been through the curriculum renewal, the Electrochemistry Interdisciplinary Research Group. Successful research outcomes are leading to more students taking courses through this research group.
