The objective of this study was to determine the ability of plantation of Shorea leprosula, which is one species of family Dipterocarpaceae in Borneo, in absorbing carbon dioxide (CO ) from 2 the atmosphere. The results of this study are expected to be a reference data on CO emission 2 absorption on the implementation of the program Reducing Emission from Deforestation and Degradation Reduce (REDD) and REDD+ in Indonesia. The study was conducted in IUPHHK-HA PT. ITCIKU Kabupaten Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan. The research was focused on Shorea leprosula stands of 1 to 6 years old with the stem diameter of 2.96 to 8.27 cm with an area of 0.25 ha sampling plot. The results of the study indicated that contribution to absorbing CO from the atmosphere 2 the plantation of Shorea leprosula in IUPHHK-HA PT. ITCIKU ranged from 0.54 to 10.17 tons/ha CO , with average annual CO absorption (average annual growth of C0 , MACO I) from the 2 2 2 2 atmosphere varied from 0.27 to 1.69 tonnes/ha/year.
