Abstract

Scannig electron microscopy (SEM) can be applied to investigate hair shafts, extracted hair roots, hair follicles in tissue slices and hair follicles on the interface of the separated epidermis. The present investigation has been performed to study the influence of external damage to the hair shaft of scalp hair. In particular, an attempt has been made to classify the morphologic alterations of the hair shaft in relation to the grade and the type of the damage.
