Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi kompetensi pegawai yang membantu Unit Pelaksana Teknis Kesatuan Pengelolaan Hutan Produksi (UPT-KPHP) Tana Tidung dalam meningkatkan kinerjanya. Studi ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data terdiri dari wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumen. Lima variabel yang menentukan kompetensi SDM adalah motivasi, karakteristik pribadi, konsep dan nilai diri, pengetahuan pegawai, dan keterampilan pegawai. Motivasi pegawai pada hakikatnya sama dalam menjalankan tugasnya sebagai komponen pendukung dan pada saat menjalankan fungsinya sebagai pegawai, dan memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kinerjanya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi SDM di UPT-KPHP Tana Tidung sudah baik namun diperlukan pelatihan untuk peningkatan keterampilan khusus. Penelitian ini masih sangat terbatas secara kualitatif dan perlu dikembangkan melalui penelitian dengan pendekatan lain sehingga memberikan kontribusi teoritis maupun implementasi lebih luas. This study aims to identify employee competencies that can help the Technical Implementation Unit of the Production Forest Management Unit (UPT-KPHP) Tana Tidung improve its performance. This study uses a qualitative descriptive methodology, where field data are used to better understand events. Location The research was conducted at the Office of UPT-KPHP Tana Tidung based on primary and secondary data. The data collection methods consist of interviews, observations, and document studies. Research data were analyzed in stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Five variables that determine HR competence are motivation, personal characteristics, self-concept and values, employee knowledge, and employee skills. The motivation of employees is essentially the same in carrying out their duties as a supporting component and when carrying out their functions as employees and has a significant influence on their performance. The results showed that the competence of HR at UPT-KPHP Tana Tidung was good, but training was needed to improve special skills. This research is still very limited qualitatively and needs to be developed through research with other approaches so that it can provide theoretical contributions as well as wider implementation.
