This synthesis takes into account the French documenation dedicated to the politics of education and training, from 1989 to 2002. The authors have taken a view of education from the angle of the school and university systems in particular, without neglecting preschool, extra-curricular and parallel education, as well as family upbringing. This synthesis highlights the way in which the politics of education and training are in keeping or not with the interest in certain aspects rather tan with others. The stace taken by the authors has been to ramin within the confines of France, referring to essentially French documentation with the exception of that drawn up by international organisations whenever it concerns France. The period concerned begins with the law of orientation of 10th july 1989 and finishes with the lawa establishing the validation of the gaining of experience of January 2002 The first part of this text, published in the previous edition of this review, has set out the deterninants of the politics involved (the technical instruments of the politics, the rise of evaluation, the balance of power, the balance of powers); reactive politics and innovatory politics. This second part concerns itself with the politics of the ordinary (the modernisationof the public service: the part played by education and training; teacher training, ministerial and interministerial politisz). A detailed chronology conclude this synthesis.
