Abstract

A urethral stricture is a scar that occurs as a result of tissue injury. As the scar heals, circumferential contraction may occur, leading to luminal narrowing. In the past, the most common etiology of urethral stricture disease was inflammatory urethritis. With the advent of more effective antibiotic therapy, external trauma and urethral instrumentation have emerged as the most frequent causes today. © 2006 Humana Press Inc.
