The objective of this work is to analyze the schooling level of students with special educational needs through the analysis of government official data concerning the access and continuance of this population in Basic Education. Thus, microdata from the Brazilian Basic Education Census will be used. However, in spite of the implementation of the inclusive education policy, the analyses show (a) the low number of enrolment of students with special educational needs in basic education; (b) that the concentration of enrolment occurs in the first grades of basic education, with great age/grade discrepancy.
