The experiment involved auditory decoding of foreign spoken language material that had been especially developed and phonetically balanced. The study focuses on auditory perception conditioned by interlanguage interference. In this situation the listener has to employ different sets of perceptual samples of phonetic units. It is assumed that in the case of auditory decoding of foreign spoken language utterances, listeners construct the phonemic, syllabic, rhythmic and prosodic patterns of speech utterances of their first language, or mother-tongue. The problem of auditory spoken language perception is bound up with problems of voice and speech line-up in the field of forensic phonetics and with language competence of criminalistic experts, first of all of forensic phoneticians.
