Abstract

The learning needs of the 21st century are the ability to think critically, creatively, collaboratively, and communicatively in learning science. However, these skills have not been empowered in learning, so students have difficulty understanding abstract science concepts and cannot think critically. Therefore the Scientific Reading Based Project (SRBP) model is applied learning model emphasizes projects based on scientific reading from scientific articles. This study aims to analyze student responses after participating in the learning of Basic Science Concepts using the Scientific Reading Based Project (SRBP) model. This type of research is a survey with the research method used is a mixed method. The research sample was determined by purposive sampling with a total of 150 Elementary Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Sebelas Maret, students who had participated in learning using the SRBP model. The research period is six months between July-December 2018. The data collection technique used questionnaires for student responses after learning science using the SRBP model. The questionnaire was made with a Likert scale 1-4, then the data with analysis with Rasch modeling. The results showed all respondents were above the average logit item (+1.03 logit) and 0.89 reliability, which showed a positive response to learning with the SRBP model. The results of the analysis based on the characteristics of the respondents in terms of gender and school origin of the 2016 and 2017 class of student respondents gave a happy, enthusiastic and enthusiastic response to learning using the SRBP model. Students as much as 95% agree that reading scientific articles increases knowledge on the science concept. Students feel happy and full of challenges with project performance based on scientific reading. They are motivated to work in groups and learn together, so that interaction between group members is more compact in completing projects.
