Normal-patológico, saúde-doença: revisitando Canguilhem

Abstract

Este artigo pretende reavaliar a obra de G. Canguilhem sobre a normalidade, a saúde, a doença e a patologia. Discute inicialmente a crítica canguilhemiana da abordagem positivista da dicotomia normal-patológico, avaliando-a como insatisfat6ria porque reafirma a disjunção qualitativo-quantitativo. Analisa ainda a distinção entre normalidade e saúde, juntamente com a proposição da saúde como capacidade normativa. Por fim, apresenta a reflexão ética pioneira de Canguilhem sobre a engenharia genética e a sua proposta de distinção entre saúde privada (subjetiva) e saúde pública, apontando para a necessidade de investigações epistemológicas sobre o conceito de saúde.This paper evaluates the work of the French philosopher G. Canguilhem on the relationship of the concepts of health, normality, disease and pathology. Canguilhem's critique of the positivistic approach on the dichotomy normalpathological is considered unsatisfactory, because it reinforces the disjunction quantitative-qualitative. The distinction between normality and health, as well as the conception of health as normative capacity, is analysed. Finally, his pioneer ethical reflection on genetic engineering and his distinction between private, subjective health and public health are presented, pointing to the need for epistemological researches on the health concept.Ce texte analyse l'oeuvre du philosophe français G. Canguilhem sur les rapports entre les concepts de santé, normalité, maladie et pathologie. La critique de Canguilhem sur l'approche positiviste de ia dichotomie normal-pathologique y est considerée comme insatisfaisante, parce qu'elle réaffirme la disjonction quantitatif-qualitatif. La distinction entre normalité et santé, et également la conception de santé en tant que capacité normative, y sont analysées. À la fin, il présente la réflexion éthique pionniere de Canguilhem sur le génie génétique et sa proposition de distinction entre santé privé subjective et santé publique, en soulignant la nécessité de recherches épistémologiques concemant le concept de santé.
