Abstract

This paper presents a system for recognizing line chart and extraction of data from the chart. This system includes three parts: preprocessing of the chart image, detection of line chart area bounded by the coordinate axes and the extraction of data from the detected chart area. The axes are detected using the projection method taking over the chart image. Then all the texts are filtered by connected component analysis. The data are extracted from the chart using sequential scanning process through the region of the line chart and calculating the relative distance of the data points from the both axes. © Springer-Verlag 2003.
