Abstract

This article aims to analyze terms in the field of Conservation and Restoration of cultural property that are considered essential to structure and to define this specialized field of knowledge. The analysis is based on the perspective of Socioterminology and the Communicative Theory of Terminology. For this purpose, two communication scenarios are discussed. Initially, we address a terminology of the area, elaborated by experts from the Conservation Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM-CC), which established the definition of the terms conservation, curative conservation, preventive conservation and restoration. Then, we analyze the same terms and its variants present in the corpus formed by the papers published in the annals of the Brazilian Association of Conservators and Restorers of Cultural Property (Associação Brasileira de Conservadores e Restauradores de Bens Culturais, ABRACOR). By approaching these two scenarios, it was possible to identify necessities of communication among conservator-restorers, as well as the variation and the representation that could be recognized from the appropriation, use and circulation of the terms considered essential to the field of Conservation and Restoration.
