From the viewpoint of control theory, it is rational to regard AQM as a typical regulation system. In this paper, a robust variable structure Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) is applied to Active Queue Management (AQM) in TCP/AQM networks. This type of controller is a robust control strategy, which is insensitive to noise and variance of the parameters, thus it is suitable to time varying network systems. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed SMC in providing satisfactory queue management system. © Springer-Verlag 2004.
