Abstract

A novel multiple description coding framework, Tessellation Based Multiple Description Coding (TMDC), is proposed in this paper. In this work, we first decompose each wavelet coefficient into two parts by bit-wise-down sampling, generating odd and even wavelet transformed images. Then, we restructure these two images in wavelet blocks and group the wavelet blocks to form the row and column packets. These packets are separately dispatched through diverse channels. Since the row and the column packets have limited intersection, even with the loss of row and column packets simultaneously, the proposed system exhibits good error resilient ability. Experimental results have verified the improved performance of the proposed algorithm. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
