Abstract

Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a safe and effective alternative to surgery for large non-polypoid colonic lesions and early colorectal carcinoma. In this article, we discuss the development, efficacy and safety of ESD. As the incidence of colorectal cancer is rapidly increasing in Asia, we advocate standardization of ESD program, including patient selection, hardware prerequisites, and training of operators. © 2011 The Authors.
