Abstract

An article discussing the use of social media in education is presented. The author shares usage statistics of networking websites such as Facebook and microblogging website Twitter, and addresses the hesitation of schools to utilize social networking, citing possible misuse and cyberbullying as major concerns. The article examines the reasons some schools have embraced social networking with the ability to reach students quickly and efficiently via the school's Twitter account and the amount of student-input social networking in schools enables listed as key factors. Cautionary measures taken by schools using social networking, and methods educators and principals should consider when integrating social media tools into their schools is also included.
