Abstract

With the quick development of Integrated Circuit (IC) industry in China, a big group of qualified engineers are needed urgently. In this paper the importance role of IC industry in China and the unbalance between the need and talent supply of the engineers is described. The Institute of Microelectronics of Tsinghua University (IMETU) has made significant efforts on education of master students majored in integrated circuits and systems to improve the quality and quantity of engineers to meet the requirement. Based on the analysis of the current system of the education of bachelor, master and doctor degrees in microelectronics engineering, the steps taken by IMETU are given. As a result, the master program in integrated circuits and systems of IMETU is attracting a smoothly increasing number of enrolled students. Meanwhile, a survey showed that the current employers gave a high rating on the quality of the graduates of this program. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH Berlin Heidelberg.
