This paper has presented a discussion of the possible nature of many-electron effects on the density of states. It is based on a study of the one-electron spectrum including interactions structure in the density of states of electrons and holes in simple metals. Certain predictions about possible effects in x-ray and optical spectra can be made. The discussion points out the existence of a number of possible interesting effects which offer a challenge for further study.
