Abstract

This review is concerned mainly with the effects of spider venoms on man but includes information on the effects on other organisms. The topics dealt with include the venomousness of spiders, the biochemistry and pharmacology of spider venoms (especially that of Latrodectus), the venoms of Loxosceles, Atrax robustus and Phoneutria nigriventer, the epidemiology of spider bites, and clinical problems and some forms of araneism (including bites by Latrodectus, Cheiracanthium, Lycosa, Loxosceles, Atrax and Phoneutria).
