Abstract

We describe the formation of β-sheets from heptapeptides bearing one electron-donating free-base porphyrin and two electron-accepting naphthalenediimides on the side chains. The porphyrin units in the resultant β-sheet fibers form J- or H-type aggregates, depending on the protonated state of the porphyrin unit in the assembling process.
