The paper describes a method of achieving gustatory evoked potentials by means of bipolar electrogustometry. Making use of modern technologies, we have built a complete system that allows for the study of the neural pathway associated with the sense of taste by means of electrical stimulation of the tongue through bipolar electrogustometry and the reception of the potentials on the skin of the human skull. The system can be used for scientific research on the sense of taste and, in the near future, also for everyday clinical diagnosis. In this paper we present first experimental results on humans with self-developed objective electrogustometry. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
