Abstract

This chapter reviews the existing government policies and programmes on high-value chain development and by using a case study, demonstrates how value chains can benefit different stakeholders of agri-food systems. It then draws policy implications and recommendations on areas of immediate focus and further research. It suggests that value chain upgradation and integration into global value chain can spur positive impact on the economy as well as on the livelihood of the people dependent on agriculture and therefore all efforts need to be made to develop efficient value chains in agriculture.
