We developed a simple immunoassay capable of differentially detecting toxin B from highly virulent strains of Clostridium difficile (BI/NAP-1/027) in stool. This assay can simultaneously confirm the presence of in vivo toxin production and provide strainrelated information relevant to infection control epidemiology and disease prognosis.
