Fewer than 30 VPCs consecutively distinguishes nonsustained ventricular tachycardia from sustained ventricular tachycardia, which usually requires intervention to terminate. More than 120 beats per minute represents ventricular tachycardia. VPCs in a patient with coronary artery disease can initially be treated with a beta blocker when ventricular function is not especially compromised.
