Abstract

Objective: To investigate the influence of reading APP gamification design elements on users’ emotional experience and the correlation between such emotional experience and users’ usage behavior, so as to provide some reference opinions for reading APP to overcome its homogenization problem and gamification design solutions. Methods: Taking WeChat Reading App as an example, based on the GAMEX game experience evaluation scale, the gamification design elements of reading app are classified into three categories: achievement and progress-oriented elements, social-oriented elements and immersion-oriented elements, and the statistical methods of PAD emotion model and questionnaire are used. Different gamification design elements produce different user emotional experiences, and all of them have influence on user behavior. The influence is in the order of achievement and progress-oriented, immersion-oriented and social-oriented elements. Conclusion: For the gamification design of reading APP, we can increase or decrease the design proportion and content of related elements according to the influence degree of each element on user behavior and the positive or negative degree of emotional experience, so that the reading APP can give users better emotional experience and participation behavior and improve the overall use value of the product.
