Paediatric non-cardiovascular thoracic anaesthesia requires specific knowledge of pathology, pathophysiology and special techniques. The two major goals are to provide good safe surgical conditions and postoperative analgesia. Surgical access can sometimes be improved by single-lung ventilation (SLV) although this is may be too difficult in small children.
