Abstract

The management of symptoms associated with enlarged, heavy breasts is the most common goal of women seeking volume reduction. These include back pain, shoulder pain and/or grooving underneath bra straps, interference with physical activity, and skin irritations or intertrigo between the breast and the underlying inframammary skin. The desire to avoid scars on the breast is a strong motivating factor for women at risk for or fearful of keloids or unsightly scars. The relatively small and few incisions required for breast liposuction offer the only real alternative to sharp excision for this group of patients. The authors discuss the preoperative preparation, technique, and possible complications.
