Abstract

This paper briefly reviews recent numerical combustion simulation results at ISTA/JAXA obtained by DNS and LES approaches, and shows some topics towards future combustion research. We have successfully simulated detailed structures of a hydrogen jet lifted flame by DNS and an unsteady combustor flow field in a gas turbine combustor by LES. In these simulations, numerical simulation has been proved very effective, but its applicability is still limited due to long computational time. It is expected that future progress in computer performance will make this kind of simulation more realistic and useful in combustion research and development. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2008.
