Abstract

A 4’6-diamidino-2-phenyindole (DAPI) staining technique was devised to demonstrate the in situ chloroplast nuclei (ct-nuclei) in cells of higher plants. Fluorescent light microscopy of samples stained by this method revealed that most mature chloroplasts of Vicia faba contained about 15–30 small, spherical ct-nuclei. © 1980, Japan Society for Cell Biology.
