The assessment was implemented for the first time, Junior High School students were not used to it; therefore, they experienced difficulties finishing the test. The objective of this study is to analyse difficulties and obstacles faced by Junior High School students when working on numeracy problems found in the National Assessment to find the solution for students to be able to smoothly answer the problems. The study applied the descriptive qualitative method with qualitative data sampling and qualitative approach by interviewing and documenting. A purposive sampling technique was utilized by involving 5 Junior High School students who took the National Assessment. The result of the study produced 4 scopes: the students’ comprehension in reading numeracy problem stimuli, the students’ basic competence to solve numeracy problems, the students’ obstacles in finishing numeracy problems, and the students’ strategy to overcome the difficulties.
