Abstract

This text reflects upon the inclusion of artistic research in contemporary universities, exploring the different modes of research into arts in the academic environment. The reflection begins by briefly recounting the Bologna Process that marked the reconfiguration of the European higher education landscape and exerted noteworthy influence in other latitudes. Within this framework, the text approaches the different modes of research into arts, as described by Christopher Frayling, Henk Borgdorff and Lyle Skains, and illustrates how artistic research has been included in academia, in order to offer an overview of those artistic research modalities established from the various relationships between arts practice and research.
