Abstract

With the rapid development of science and technology, the amount of knowledge is growing exponentially. Therefore, formal learning in educational institutions can no longer meet all needs of people. In order to support life-long learning of people, we propose an adaptive learning environment which is open and learner-centric. In additional to provide engaging learning resources, useful learning services and abundant learning opportunities; it also dynamically tracks and manages the learning needs and learning process of learners to improve their self-management, self-regulation and self-assessment abilities which they will need during their whole lifespan. Furthermore, it helps learners to keep connect with, contribute to, and benefit from social communities of experts and peers with the support of social software tools. © Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2014.
