Abstract

A phase change material (PCM) based heat sink strengthened by fractal matrix sandwich with variable gradient for short or intermittent thermal control of electronic equipment was introduced in the present paper. The PCM based heat sink is compose of package shell, enhanced heat transfer structure and PCM. Heat transfer enhancement structure is a variant gradient fractal dot matrix structure which is aiming at the heat transfer characteristics of PCM based heat sink. At the first stage, the heat transfer enhancement structure can accelerate the heat transfer from the heat diffusion base plate to the inner area of PCM. During the second and the third stage, the heat transfer enhancement structure has a larger heat exchange area with the multi-level fractal, which can spread the heat from the heat diffusion base plate to the PCM more efficiently. Thus it can improve the comprehensive heat transfer efficiency while the proportion of enhanced heat transfer structure is kept unchanged.
