Abstract

Audiovisual have taken on a role as one of the main teaching resources. With this in mind, a national program called “Aprende en casa” has been underway since 2020 in Mexico. The program consists of the distribution of educational videos as a support resource for teaching. The videos are distributed via television, Facebook and YouTube, in order to support the teaching and learning process within the national educational curriculum at the levels of early childhood, primary and secondary education. The aim of this research is to analyze the contents of this videos, as well as to examine their relationship with students’ learning experiences. A sequential mixed method was used, consisting of the application of a questionnaire to 191 students, along with an observation grid to analyze 153 videos. It was found that active participation, situated learning strategies and new media formats, such as TikTok videos and short Reels, are elements that help to establish students’ interest. In order to more effectively encourage learning processes, it is recommended that the production of these materials should be based on issues and needs that concern the community, and their narratives should be adapted to the new media formats of audiovisual consumption.
