Abstract

Within the framework of discussing health resources, the author reviews the roles of planning, organisation, staffing, direction, coordination, reporting and budgeting in health care. Health care in Mexico knows three important institutions: the Ministry of Health and Social Assistance (SSA); the Mexican Institute for Social Security (IMSS) and the Social Security and Services Institute for Government Employees (ISSSTE). The role of each of these in Mexican Health Care is outlined. The article ends with comparing a number of countries as regards the interrelationship between health and economic development.
