Abstract

We review solar radio emission from the perspective of imaging spectroscopy. Radio emission mechanisms differ in their spectral properties, which can be used to determine parameters of the emitting particles and the ambient solar atmosphere in the emitting volume. After generation, the propagation of radiation in the solar atmosphere leads to changes in the spectrum that can be exploited to gain further information about the atmospheric parameters along the line of sight.
