Abstract

The article reflects on the phenomenon of modern architecture from the periphery of those territories that, paradoxically, development and modernization have fragmented. Taking as a case study the city of Tampico, Tamaulipas. The process of modernization of the city is described from a bibliographic, newspaper and archive review in order to contribute to the discussion about the effects of the modernization processes in port cities associated with railways and oil. early twentieth century. It shows how modernization processes are based on a model that promotes urban fragmentation. To conclude that in the case of Tampico the logic of modernity perpetuated the fragmentation of the urban environment exacerbating social inequality.
