This research is motivated by the many principals who do not conduct supervision and evaluation of academic supervision in schools so that the quality of learning is low. For this reason, this study aims to improve the competency of principals in carrying out academic supervision through monitoring and evaluation. This research is a school action research conducted on 10 elementary school principals in Indragiri giri district. The instrument used in the form of an observation sheet to observe the implementation of supervision which is used as material for analysis and follow-up improvement in the competency of the principal. The results of the study in the first cycle amounted to 77% meaning that the competence of principals included in the category enough, in the second cycle increased to 88% which included in good categories. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the competency of principals in Indragiri upstream districts in implementing academic supervision has increased through monitoring and evaluation.
