Abstract

Why has my veterinarian prescribed this medicine? Neomycin sulfate is an antibiotic. It is used to reduce the number of bacteria in the colon (a part of the intestine) prior to surgery. It may also be used to decrease the numbers of ammonia producing bacteria in the treatment of brain disorders caused by the liver not working properly (a condition called hepatic encephalopathy).
