Abstract

Spatio-temporal data and knowledge have become increasingly important in the last years. In this paper, which introduces the session on Knowledge Engineering Techniques for Spatio-temporal Applications, we outline some issues in geo-spatial research and applications for which the use of innovative knowledge, tools and methodologies is crucial. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
