Abstract

Today, mobile devices allow the planning, organization and implementation of new school activities at anywhere and anytime. In fact, teachers use the smartphone to improve the teaching-learning process. This mixed research analyzes the opinion of the teachers about the use of mobile devices in the school activities considering data science and machine learning (linear regression). The sample is made up of 106 teachers from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). The results of machine learning indicate that carrying out the school activities on mobile devices positively influences the learning, participation and motivation of the students. Data science identifies 3 predictive models on the use of mobile devices in the school activities through the decision tree technique. The information about the teacher's profile (sex and teaching experience) and use of technology in the educational field allow the construction of these predictive models. Smartphone plays a fundamental role in the educational context because teachers use this mobile device to enter the educational platforms, search for the information, check the email and use the technology applications at any time and place. Finally, mobile devices allow transforming the educational process, improving the teaching-learning conditions and updating the school activities.
