Abstract

Gender dysphoria is the phenomenon of people who have a discrepancy between their existing gender identity and their assigned birth sex. It is estimated that there are about 25 million transgender people worldwide. These people have a desire to live and be recognized as a member of the opposite (anatomical) gender. Physical assimilation can be partially accomplished through hormone therapy or gender reassignment surgery. Endocrinological therapy procedures are based on hormone replacement therapy for hypogonadism in the general population. With responsible therapy, serious side effects are rare.
