Abstract

It is shown that the dynamical interaction between galactic gas and those dust particles which are elongated will, in certain circumstances, lead to a partial alignment of those particles. The direction which is preferred by the long dimension of the particles is that of the relative velocity between gas .and dust. The possible relation between this effect and the observed polarization
