In this paper, I discuss a simple experimental setup to be used in academic teaching laboratories in electromagnetism to support the student investigation of magnetic fields and hysteresis. It employs the classical Rowland ring method. A signal generator produces H in a toroidal ring made of ferromagnetic material while the signal picked up by a sensing coil is amplified and integrated, allowing the material hysteresis curve to be seen in a oscilloscope screen by plotting Lissajous curves. A student group methodological approach to explore the experiment is also presented. © The Sociedade Brasileira de Física.
