Abstract

In the Czech Republic, the first total diet study (TDS) was conducted during the period 1994-1998. Two subsequent TDSs were carried out in the time frames 1999-2003 and 2004-2009. The organization framework and principles for the Czech TDS are described. As an example of TDS results, the time trends for the exposure of various population cohorts to the sum of six non-dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls are presented. Conclusions are regularly used for communicating with various stakeholders, developing governmental programs on health protection and promotion, and informing regulatory work.
