Abstract

Indexing cam mechanisms are widely used in some kinds of light-industry machineries. They have great effects on dynamic performance of the machines. Some faults like clearance can not only worsen dynamic properties but also damage key components in the machines. This paper studies the dynamics of indexing cam mechanism with clearance fault between roller and cam. By using unilateral contact model clearance between roller and cam is modeled based on their physical characteristics. Then, dynamic model is developed of parallel indexing cam system with output shaft and rotary table. Numerical integration method is used to solve the differential equations, and the responses of parallel indexing cam mechanism considering clearance are obtained and analyzed. According to the result, reasons for impulse vibration on turret are mesh impacts when number of meshing roller changes in parallel indexing cam mechanism with clearance. Effects on response of turret and rotary table are investigated with increasement of clearance .This work will be helpful for fault diagnosis of indexing cam system. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
