Abstract

This article discusses the relationships between vanity and suffering according to the Brazilian philosopher Matias Aires Ramos da Silva de Eça (1705-1763) in his Reflexões sobre a vaidade dos homens (Reflections on Human Vanity). Some of his sources are also mentioned, and the author of the article concludes that Aires produced a splendid and still pertinent analysis of the human psyche. © Associação Universitária de Pesquisa em Psicopatologia Fundamental.
